International Adoption - Thinking about Adopting a child from another Country?
Although there are many
children in your country who are looking for an
adoptive
family,
there are also children in other countries who need homes.
International adoption may
be their only opportunity to have a permanent family. For
humanitarian reasons Government's allow
International
adoptions to proceed where:
- The child cannot be cared for in any suitable manner
in his or her own country;
- The adoption would be in the best interests of the
child and with respect for his or her fundamental rights
as recognised in international law; and
-
The adopter has been assessed as eligible and suitable
to adopt from overseas by an
adoption
agency.
Here at International Adoption
Information we aim to serve and exist purely as an
"Infomediary" and strongly recommend that at all times
should the need for correct impartial legal advice be
required that you approach your nearest specialist Adoption
Lawyer or Attorney. International Adoption is
a specialised discipline and if in doubt consult the
services of your nearest Embassy or view the necessary
Government Adoption pages.
If you think that you would be interested in
adopting
a child from overseas you should speak to your local
authority or a voluntary adoption agency that is registered
to work on International adoption.
The requirements of the process will vary
depending on the child's country of origin. Information
about each country's requirements can be found
here. This information should be read in conjunction
with general leaflets.
